I'm displeased mainly with the price and the execution of this textbook. First off it's not even a textbook but just a large pile of holed papers so you can't resell it, and secondly the price is ridiculous. So all in all you lose in the end. Of course if you HAVE to get it, well then you have no choice.

Cheap loose Leaf Pages (Rip Rip RIPPTY Rip....All my pages fell out)

Pages are thin for loose leaf and the entire class was just taught by a teacher that did not have an exam that match the book she set for the class. If you have no choice in buying this get the hard cover book the loose leaf pages will fall apart or destroy the three ring binder because it is too heavy. Don't understand why Walmart sale cheap three ring binders but they do. Also never take this during a summer course in college wait until fall or spring!

Wonderfully concise and direct

Wonderfully concise and direct, with extensive Resources and References to both lend credibility and encourage further exploration into this fascinating discipline. (As the back of the book indicates, this guide is not for the more practiced observer so much as the aspirational beginner.) The conversational tone (and perhaps a grammatical error or two) may take devout literary scholars a few pages to adapt to, but Ms Blackwood knows what she is talking about and the approachability of the text only proves to be an asset when one attempts to put the techniques into practice. Overall I can easily recommend this volume to anyone interested in learning more about the world around them and desiring to experience it more fully.

I got the Kindle version, and I liked it very much. :-) I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to start seeing the world a little more like Sherlock Holmes. It shows you exactly how to start from the beginning, and gives very good direction on how to branch out from there :-) The Tumblr blog is awesome as well, I've been following it for a long time, so I recommend that, too. :-)

About the Author
Hui Wu is a professor of English and the chair of the Department of Literature and Languages at the University of Texas at Tyler, and the Distinguished Guest Professor of English at Shanghai Lixin University of Commerce, China. She is the editor and translator of Once Iron Girls: Essays on Gender by Post-Mao Chinese Literary Women. Her translation into Chinese of C. Jan Swearingen’s Rhetoric and Irony: Western Literacy and Western Lies was published in 2004.

C. Jan Swearingen, a professor of English emerita at Texas A&M University, is the author of Rhetoric and Irony: Western Literacy and Western Lies, and the editor of Rhetoric, the Polis, and the Global Village. She coedited and contributed to a special symposium issue of College Composition and Communication titled “Double Trouble: Seeing Chinese Rhetoric through Its Own Lens” and has published widely on classical and religious rhetoric. She received a year-long fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities for her study of rhetoric and religion in colonial Virginia.
