Keith J. Karren, Ph.D., EMT-B, is professor of Health Sciences at Brigham Young University, where he teaches First Aid and related courses. He has been active in higher education for over 37 years, is the author of numerous EMS publications, and is an organizer of key EMS conferences.

Daniel Limmer, NREMT-P, is a faculty member at Eastern Manie Community College in Bangor, Maine. He has been involved in EMS and law enforcement for over 28 years and still practices as a paramedic with Kennebunk Fire Rescue in Kennebunk, Maine. Dan is a frequent lecturer at conferences and colleges nationwide. He is a co-author of several textbooks, including Emergency Care, Essentials of Emergency Care, Advanced Medical Life Support, and First Responder: A Skills Approach.

Joseph J.Mistovich, M.Ed, NREMT-P, is chair of the Department of Health Professions and a professorat Youngstown State University, Ohio. He has more than 22 years of experience as an educator in emergency medical services and multidisciplinary health care. He received a Master of Education degree from Kent State University, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Services, both from Youngstown State University. He has authored several EMS textbooks and numerous EMS articles. He is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences.

Randall Benner, M.Ed, NREMT-P, is a contributing author to this edition. He is the director of the Emergency Medical Technology program at Youngstown State University, where he teaches courses in psychoneuroimmunology, behavior change, and health psychology. He has authored and co-authored numerous texts, several with Joe Mistovich, and is a prime organizer of a major EMS annual conference held in Salt Lake City.

Great book full of good information!

This book is full of really good information and will be helpful not only in my college course, but will continue to be a good reference outside of the classroom when dealing with real-life situations. My only concern was that the book didn't come in the condition I thought it would; when it says the book is in "very good" condition, I would expect an almost like-new copy, not one that is very, very tattered on the front cover. Anyway, this book is useful and the wear-and-tear is minimal, especially in essence to how much use I will get out of it.

I ended up getting a B in the class overall, it's a book full of tons of useful and relevant information to today's first aid needs. There is more information then what I though would be in there originally. It's a very hands on book which I liked a lot

Everything in here is great but it's such overkill - you will get the ...

Everything in here is great but it's such overkill - you will get the same certification from a 6 hour CPR first aid class as you will get from reading this textbook and taking a college class. You may be more prepared to provide aid, but you will have no more say in patient care than the dude who did it on a weekend. If you are so interested that you want to take a class, take an EMT class instead - apply your knowledge and broaden your scope.

Finally, something written that truly makes a marriage work. . .

I'm not one to read a lot of self help books on relationships or marriage, but I've read a few. They didn't help. I don't trust the psychiatric profession. I saw how they wasted a hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars trying to "fix" my ex-wife and me. Yet, before I even finished reading the book, I started using methods taught in the book that worked over and over again. This book doesn't use tricks. It gives me an understanding of how to make a marriage work. I think it should be mandatory reading for every high schooler in America. I wouldn't change anything about my circumstances as I am today very happily married. But if I had read this book 30 years ago, even my first marriage to a extremely negative person, where my children were affected, would have been significantly more peaceful - one where all of us would not have had to go through the difficulty that we did.

In my opinion the information in this book would make a horrible marriage tolerable, a difficult marriage good, and a good marriage great. This is a magical book that should be read by every person who plans on having a relationship at some point in their life or is in one now.

The Get Yourself Right when you're Married Book

This isn't a let's find that romance that we once lost book. It isn't a book that will make you want to stair lovingly into your partners eyes as you turn the pages. This book wont make you want to go out and buy your partner a sweet gift to profess your love once more. This book is a tell-it-like-it in marriage manual. It kind of reminds me of the Five Languages of love, except not nearly as complicated (and the five languages isn't even that complicated, so that should tell you something). The Marriage Foundation is easily understood, easy to navigate to, and straight to the point. There's a good white page radius around the material so that you can jot down notes while reading, which you will have many at certain points of your exploration. The verbiage is simple, but has impaction. If you are looking for something beautifully written, you wont find it here, but you will find material that helps you to better understand the meaning of Marriage. Paul stresses that most people go into marriage knowing very little about their partner and that most take more time and do more research in purchasing a car than they do in choosing their life long partner. Well, if you, as many, decided to take the plunge because of your incorrect rose colored glasses, assuming that marriage is like a walk in the park and now your glasses are off and everything is just plain ugly, this is a good book to pick up...a good "foundation" to begin picking up the missing pieces that you never thought to put together before you were married.

Another thing I want to mention, is that this book is for everyone. Whether you are single or married. There are a ton of sections that you can apply to your life, whether in a relationship or not. In fact, I'm single and found myself loving the chapter on Controlling the Mind. I never thought to view myself the way Paul explains it, but now that I am, I've already seen a noticeable change in negative habits.

The only reason I knock off a star is because Paul does not focus on God. Paul claims to not support any "Religion or Dogma", but you can tell that he has a relationship with God (or so it appears) in his book. I love that he states sex before marriage is detrimental and doesn't necessarily focus on the moral aspect of it, but the biological reasons as to why we should wait until marriage. If you are a Christian, I do believe this book can still be helpful if you look at it from Gods perspective.

Easily the best book I've ever read on saving your marriage, and actually one of the best self-help books I have ever read -- on ANY subject. Breaking The Cycle is well-written, with thoughts expressed in a fresh, cogent, sensible manner. If you truly desire to be the change you want to see in your marriage (and in the world), this book gives you a practical course of action that you can actually follow. If you sincerely apply the principles within it, you will evolve into a better, happier human being, as well as a more loving spouse. It's a real win=win. What you read in Breaking The Cycle will stay with you for a long time after you've closed the actual covers. It has managed to explain many complex reasons for my own behaviour, as well as that of my spouse, and with self-knowledge and self-awareness comes tremendous power to change. I am hoping that what I've learned will help save my own marriage... this book has certainly given me the encouragement I need to keep my positive focus on marital restoration and reconciliation. Worth every penny!

Ancient Arabic literature is a realm of poetry; prose literary forms emerged rather late, and even then remained in the shadow of poetic creative efforts. Traditionally, this literature has been viewed through a philologist’s lens and has often been represented as ‘materialistic’ in the sense that its poetry lacked imagination. As a result, Arabic poetry was often evaluated negatively in relation to other poetic traditions. The Poetics of Ancient and Classical Arabic Literature argues that old Arabic literature is remarkably coherent in poetical terms and has its own individuality, and that claims of its materialism arise from a failure to grasp the poetic principles of the Arabic tradition. Analysing the Qur’an, which is known for confronting the poetry of the time, this book reveals that "post Qur’anic" literature came to be defined against it. Thus, the constitution and interpretation of Arabic literature imposed itself as a particular exegesis of the sacred Text.

Disputing traditional interpretations by arguing that Arabic literature can only be assessed from within, and not through comparison with other literary traditions, this book is of interest to students and scholars of Islamic Studies, Arabic Studies and Literary Studies.

Robert V. Kozinets is widely recognized as the inventor of netnography, and a social media marketing and research authority. He has authored and co-authored over 150 pieces of research, and hundreds more Tweets (@kozinets) and blog posts (kozinets.net), usually about the intersection of technology, media, brands, methods, institutions, and social groups. This includes four books―three of them Sage Method books. Currently, Kozinets is Associate Editor of the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Retailing, an Academic Trustee of the Marketing Science Institute, and is the Industry seat on the Board of Directors of the Association for Consumer Research. Hands-on explained method for studying online communities

“Netnography is the captain’s log of that journey through Internet sociocultural experience of cyber social space” (p. 70).

This quote sums up the content of the book and hints at the way it is written. Kozinets has updated ethnography for the digital world and coined netnography. Studying online communities is a journey that is well guided with the helpful advice from this book.

The book begins by describing the online setting and how it can be understood. Then the history and foundations ethnography are touched on, just enough to have a good understanding of the fundamentals and to appreciate the ancestry. Kozinet explains in easy to understand terms how ethnography has to be different in the digital world. With examples and self-reflection, the main benefit of this book is the practical advice for anyone who wants to study online communities. The proposed participant-observer approach is not only explained and operationalized but also defended against common critiques.

In conclusion, I will probably refer back to this book often when designing my own research.

Easy to read Text with good insight for Teams and Groups

This text is not one that you have to force yourself to push through to read. It flows well and is easy and interesting to read through. It does have some excellent insights into group and team communication, collaboration and interaction with each other and outside forces. I thought it was a very well done text and appropriate (current) for the large amount of group and team interaction in the workplace today.

The gravelly voiced Robison proves to be a capable storyteller, whether describing the pranks he used to play on his much younger brother (Augusten Burroughs, who reads his foreword) or the relief of finally being diagnosed with Asperger's in middle age after a lifetime of social isolation and relatively odd behaviors. Robison is a vocal and emphatic advocate for Asperger's, which he insists is not a disease but a different—and sometimes better—neurology. Asperger's gave Robison a single-minded ability to focus on his love of electronics, giving him a place in the world as the wizard behind Kiss's smoking and flaming guitars or, later in life, a gift for diagnosing and fixing high-end imported cars. This memoir is highly entertaining and the abridgment is smoothly edited.

*Starred Review* If one looked at only Robison's impish sense of humor (he once ordered a blow-up sex doll to be delivered to his junior-high-school teacher—at school), or his success as a classic-car restorer, it might be impossible to believe he has the high-functioning form of autism spectrum disorder called Asperger's syndrome. Clues abound, however, in his account of a youth encompassing serious inability to make and keep friends; early genius at pyrotechnics, electronics, and math; and pet names such as Poodle for his dog and Snort and Varmint for his baby brother. Much later, he calls his wife Unit Two. It is easy to recognize these telltale traits today, but Robison went undiagnosed until he was 40. In the 1960s, he was variously labeled lazy, weird, and, worse, sociopathic. Consequently, his childhood memories too often read like a kid's worst nightmares. Not only did his parents fail to understand the root of his socialization problems but they were also virtually as dysfunctional as the pair Augusten Burroughs portrays in Running with Scissors (2002). 'Nough said? Not nearly. Good insight for Aspergerians

I have a young son who is 4 years old. He is atypical but very subtle when you meet him. Most people think his "traits" (sensitivity to sound, late potty train, echoing (repetitions of words), delay lack of communication flapping of arms when excited, lack of play with others) will be outgrown eventually. However, highly intelligent recognize letters and counts to 200 at age 2, reads, writes, spells, memorize downloadable from videos at age 2 1/2 years. As with motherly instincts, I insisted to the pediatrician that I need to see specialists which with persistency eventually happened. So with his second follow up in a few weeks with a child's developmental specialists, I decided to do some research by reading and watching videos of Aspergers. I don't know what the results will be with my son but at least I can be more knowledgeable about this topic.
This gives you understanding of how Aspergerians deal with social aspects, why they do what they do and that despite this condition (NOT a disease), they can still have a family, career....a fulfilling life. The only part that I didn't really care for is the details of his interests (experiments, pyrotechnics, trains). It was a bit boring to me but after reading this book, you will understand why. Overall, I think families should look into this book as a way to understand the perception of this way of life.

Interesting and insightful entertainment.

This book is an extremely interesting read, even from a biographical angle. It's also given me a lot of insight into mild autism/Asperger's. My boyfriend recommended this to me when we started dating, as he felt it would help me understand his trains of thought and such better. I ended up finding out that I myself have a lot of the same thought processes, though not to such a degree that it's ever really caused me issue.

This book will make you feel a lot of things and it's extremely well written. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves non-fiction or anyone who is interested by the subject.

If you want to know what it is like to live with Aspergers and have a LOT of laughs along the way this is the best one I have come across. Suitable for professionals and non-professionals. You get the inside view from a very talented author who, you will find, has many other talents including practical jokes, music, electronics, auto restoration and on and on. I am often LOL and forced to read the book twice, once to myself and once to my wife. I try to save the best parts for her but find they are ALL best parts. John A. Haskin, Ph.,D. I am using this book for a class I am currently enrolled in at University of Arkansas and even though I received an edition different than the one pictured, it had the same exact material in it whenever comparing it to one at the university bookstore. Have no fear.

Encyclopedic in content and artistic in presentation, Abnormal Psychology in Modern Life provides a superlative introduction to theory and empirical research in the field of Abnormal Psychology. The structure of the text follows a well-planned and coherent organization of the major classifications of mental disorders. Specifically, the case studies presented provide the reader with a clear understanding of the symptomatology as contained in the DSM-IV.

This is a great book...

This is a great book if you have the right teacher. The book is very informative yet if you have no back ground in abnormal psych you might want to make sure the teacher for your course is capable of explaining it to you. I also recomend that you make sure your copy has a CD rom. The study guide and website are great tools too. They help a lot.

Great book to read !

I am taking abnormal psychology course at the University of Brithsh Columbia, Canada. I really enjoyed reading this book because it is very informative and thought provoking and really made me abnormalities of the human being. I really liked the case examples. It takes a bit of time to read chapters but it worth the time.
